Dies Suddenly After Sport ? Latest Reason You Must Be Carefull!
Several times we have heard the case of an athlete who died suddenly after exercising. In fact, the general perception of the athlete is a healthy person. Then why they could die suddenly?
One of the causes of sudden death in athletes is the cessation of the heart suddenly. The incident was triggered by high intensity exercise done in a long time.
Cardiac and electrophysiology consultant physician Jeremy Chow explains, there are several risk factors that cause a person may experience sudden cardiac death or sudden cardiac death (SCD). Here in between.
1. Congenital heart abnormalities
Congenital heart defects are defects in the heart or a condition known as congenital abnormalities. This condition has existed since an individual is born. Generally, a person with a congenital heart defects can not live long, but got operative heart.
2. Abnormalities of the heart muscle
This condition can be hypertrophic (enlargement) of the heart muscle that results from the failure of the heart to function normally. Chow said, 80 percent of SCD caused by this condition.
"This is a genetic factor so that nothing can be done to prevent it," said doctors from the Asian Heart & Vascular Center, Gleneagles Medical Center, Singapore
3. Arrhythmia
Arrhythmia, also known as heart rhythm disturbances. This condition is caused by electrical problems of the heart. When the occurrence of arrhythmia, the heart rate can occur very slowly even stopped. This can lead to death.
4. Abnormalities of the heart arteries
These disorders form a blockage in the arteries to the heart, resulting in impaired heart function. Abnormalities can also mean arterial abnormalities in the location or branch of the artery.
5. Infection or inflammation
Viruses or bacteria can infect the organs in the human body, including the heart. The infection causes inflammation in the heart that caused it not to function properly.
"By having one of the above factors, a person has a higher risk of experiencing SCD. Even at a young age, under 40 years old, they can experience it, especially when doing sports with high intensity in a long time," said Chow.
asymptomatic
Chow insists, is different SCD with heart attack even though they cause the heart to fail and lead to death. SCD, he said, generally asymptomatic, not as a heart attack.
"Usually, when having a heart attack, there is pain in the chest that radiates and can last some time. However, in SCD, death can occur directly on the spot and unfortunately there are no symptoms," he said.
Most heart attacks are caused by chronic heart disease that lasts for a long time. For example, a buildup of plaque in blood vessels that narrow the blood vessels can lead to heart attacks if it is clogged. This contrasts with SCD, which is mostly the trigger factor is innate or genetic factors.
